Packing Tips - Problem Free Packing

Packing is a daunting task and one of the reasons that moving house is one of the most stressful things you can do in life. Sometimes a whole lifetime’s worth of belongings is looking at you and you just don’t know where to begin. There are a number of simple steps you can work through to make the process much simpler.

1. Make a list

Starting in the room you use least, work out an order of things to pack; from the least used and ornamental right up to the everyday such as kitchen utensils and toothbrushes. Making a list will help you to work out how much packaging you’re going to need and and when as well as roughly how long it will take, avoiding any last minute panics.

2. Use your list as a handy reminder of what you have packed

Especially with valuable items and the things you use most often it is really useful to have an inventory of what you’ve packed and where so that you can check things off as you unpack and locate anything you need in a hurry.

3. Use good quality boxes

It’s easy to get boxes from shops and businesses but it’s best to get hold of ones which are specifically made for packing. These are generally sturdier and won’t collapse and have clear areas to note down room and content.

4. Pack the boxes properly

Filling your boxes to the brim will make them sturdier and also reduces the amount of storage space you need. Specialist packing materials are available for unusually shaped or fragile items.

5. Take care with weight

Never pack a box until it is so heavy you can’t lift it- a bad back won’t help your move go smoothly. Consider packing heavier items over a number of boxes, with lighter things on top.
